Oman's research landscape is anchored by Sultan Qaboos University, the country's first public university and the largest research institution in the sultanate. SQU publishes over 6,000 papers per year with particular strength in marine science given Oman's strategic coastline on the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman. The Research Council funds national priority research programs in oil and gas, desalination, water security, and food technology. Oman's Vision 2040 diversification strategy has increased R&D funding across sectors. The German University of Technology in Oman, partnered with RWTH Aachen, provides world-class engineering research. Annual indexed publications exceed 9,000 and are growing at 12% per year.
