Samuel Adeyemi
Microbiology · University of Lagos
Samuel Adeyemi is a PhD candidate in Microbiology at the University of Lagos, supervised by Prof. Adewale Ogunniyi. His thesis characterises the lytic host range, stability and in vivo efficacy of a four-phage cocktail targeting carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae bloodstream infections, using murine bacteraemia models and clinical isolate collections from three Lagos teaching hospitals. Six publications in Viruses and Frontiers in Microbiology document his phage characterisation and animal model results. Samuel received a WASCAL research mobility grant and presented his phage therapy data at ECCMID. He is finalising a commercialisation agreement with a UK-registered phage therapy company to license his cocktail formulation for clinical development. His phage cocktail cleared bacteraemia in 87 percent of the mouse model treatment arms tested.
