Profile
Peter Higgs predicted the existence of a fundamental scalar boson — now called the Higgs boson — in 1964, a mechanism responsible for giving mass to elementary particles within the Standard Model. The ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN announced the boson's discovery in 2012, leading to Higgs sharing the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics with François Englert.
