Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) is the largest comprehensive higher education system in southern Vietnam, established on 27 January 1995 through the merger of nine leading universities. The system enrolls over 61,726 full-time undergraduate students and offers 105 master programmes and 79 doctoral degree programmes, with a faculty of 3,284 lecturers supported by 928 dedicated researchers. VNU-HCM ranks among the top 500 universities in Asia (QS Asia Rankings 2025) and is recognised for its strong research output in engineering, natural sciences, and information technology. The university has been at the forefront of Vietnam technology transformation, hosting innovation hubs and industry collaboration programmes with global technology companies. Its University of Technology hosts specialised research laboratories in materials science, nanotechnology, and mechatronics. The International University component offers English-medium programmes with partners from the United States, France, and Germany. VNU-HCM drives approximately 30% of Vietnam total scientific publication output and receives significant research funding from the Vietnam National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED).
